The 24K gold rate in Pakistan fell Rs3,000 to Rs426,500 per tola today, as international gold slipped on worries that higher oil prices will keep US interest rates high for longer.

The gold rate in Pakistan fell today, with 24K gold down Rs3,000, or 0.70%, to Rs426,500 per tola. The rate was Rs429,500 per tola on Wednesday. The fall followed a drop in the international gold price.

What Moved Gold

International gold fell to its lowest level in more than two weeks today, according to Reuters reports carried by CNBC. Oil prices rose after further Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia added to fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East. Higher energy costs have already pushed recent US consumer and producer inflation figures above expectations. Traders read this as a sign that US interest rates will stay high for longer, which makes gold less attractive because it pays no interest.

The Federal Reserve is not expected to change rates when it meets on 27–28 October, but analysts at Capital Economics said its statement could sound hawkish. Markets are also waiting for next week's US PCE inflation data.
