About the British Pound Rate in Pakistan

The United Kingdom has one of the oldest and largest Pakistani diaspora communities, and the British pound is one of the most searched currencies in Pakistan. Students heading to UK universities, families receiving remittances and travellers all track the pound-to-rupee rate.

Unlike the Gulf currencies, the pound floats freely. Its rate against the rupee depends on two things at once: how the pound is doing against the US dollar, and how the rupee is doing against the dollar.

About This Rate

The pound rate on this page is the open market buying rate — what a licensed exchange company in Pakistan pays when you sell British Pounds in cash. If you are buying British Pounds, expect a slightly higher selling rate at the counter. Banks use the interbank rate for transfers, which is usually a little lower than the open market rate.

Rates are updated once a day at around 12:05 pm Pakistan time. See all currency rates in Pakistan, or check how the exchange rate feeds into today's gold rate in Pakistan.

The pound–rupee rate combines the pound's strength against the dollar (driven by Bank of England interest rates and the UK economy) with the rupee's strength against the dollar (driven by Pakistan's reserves, imports and remittances).
