What Is 18K Gold?
18K gold is 18 parts gold to 6 parts other metals, making it 75% pure, stamped 750. With a quarter of the metal being alloy, it is much harder than 22K or 21K, so it holds small settings firmly and keeps fine detail.
That's why diamond and stone-set jewellery is usually made in 18K: the prongs that hold a stone need to be strong. The alloy also allows colours that higher karats can't manage, such as white gold (mixed with palladium or nickel and often rhodium-plated) and rose gold (more copper).
18K is the most affordable of the four karats per tola, but it is the least efficient as a store of value. More of what you pay goes into alloy and design, and resale is based only on the 75% gold content. Buy 18K for the jewellery itself, not as an investment.
What 18K Gold Is Best For
- Diamond and stone-set jewellery
- White gold and rose gold designs
- Engagement rings and modern designer pieces
- A lower price per tola for fashion jewellery
How the 18K Rate Is Calculated
The daily benchmark announced by the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA) is a 24K per-tola rate, built from the international gold price and the USD-PKR exchange rate. 18K is priced as 18/24 of it, because 75% of a 18K piece is pure gold.
Today: Rs 410,000 (24K per tola) × 18/24 = Rs 307,500 per tola
One tola is 11.664 grams, the standard weight in Pakistan's sarafa bazaars. Read more in our guide to traditional gold weights in Pakistan.
Tips for Buying 18K Gold in Pakistan
- Check the gold weight separately from stone weight. The 18K rate should apply only to the gold.
- Look for a 750 or 18K stamp; for diamond pieces, ask for the stone certificate too.
- For white gold, ask whether it is rhodium-plated, since plating wears and needs redoing every few years.
- Expect a lower buyback: the dealer pays only for the 75% gold content, and stones are valued separately, if at all.

18K Gold Rate — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 18K gold rate in Pakistan today?
The 18K gold rate in Pakistan today is Rs 307,500 per tola, Rs 263,636 per 10 grams and Rs 26,364 per gram.
What is the 18K gold rate per 10 grams and per gram in Pakistan?
18K gold is Rs 263,636 per 10 grams and Rs 26,364 per gram today. One tola is 11.664 grams, so a tola (Rs 307,500) costs a little more than 10 grams.
How is the 18K rate calculated?
It is 18/24 (75%) of the 24K rate. With 24K at Rs 410,000 per tola, 18K is Rs 307,500 per tola.
Is 18K gold real gold?
Yes. 18K is 75% pure gold, with the rest made up of metals like copper, silver or palladium for strength and colour. It is real gold, just less pure than 22K or 24K.
Why is diamond jewellery made in 18K?
Because 18K is harder than higher karats, so the small prongs and settings that hold stones stay firm. It also allows white and rose gold colours.
Is 18K gold a good investment?
Not compared with 24K. Resale is based only on the gold content, and more of the price goes into alloy and design. Today 18K is Rs 102,500 per tola cheaper than 24K. (We provide rates and information, not investment advice.)
