What Is 24K Gold?
24K gold is gold with nothing else mixed in: at least 99.9% pure, stamped 999 or 24K. Because there's no alloy to price, the 24K rate is the raw metal price, and the daily benchmark announced by the APGJSA in Karachi is a 24K per-tola figure. Every 22K, 21K and 18K rate you see is that number scaled down by purity.
Pure gold is soft. A 24K ring bends and scratches easily, so in Pakistan it is mostly sold as bullion: 1-tola and 10-tola bars (often called biscuits), smaller gram bars, and coins. Some families do buy 24K jewellery for its colour and full value, but it suits plain pieces that won't see daily wear.
For savers, 24K is the simplest way to own gold. You pay little or no making charge on bars, and when you sell, dealers price it close to the day's rate because there's no alloy or workmanship to deduct. How the 24K Rate Is Calculated
The daily benchmark announced by the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA) is a 24K per-tola rate, built from the international gold price and the USD-PKR exchange rate. The 24K rate is that benchmark, and every lower karat is priced as a share of it.

Tips for Buying 24K Gold in Pakistan
- Buy bars from established sarafa dealers or refiners, and ask for a receipt that states weight and purity.
- Check the 999 stamp, and ask the dealer to test it on a karat-testing (XRF) machine. Most bazaars have one, and a test takes minutes.
- Compare the dealer's selling and buying price on the same day. A small spread is normal; a large one is a reason to shop around.
- Keep the receipt: it makes resale faster and gets you a better buyback price.
