Which Gold Purity Should You Buy?
- 24K (99.9%): 24 karat is pure gold, 99.9% fine, and the benchmark every other rate in Pakistan is calculated from. It's what you buy as bars, biscuits and coins.
- 22K (91.6%): 22 karat gold is 91.6% pure and the standard for Pakistani jewellery, especially bridal sets. It's the rate most jewellery buyers ask for.
- 21K (87.5%): 21 karat gold is 87.5% pure. It's a little harder than 22K, popular for everyday jewellery, and the standard karat in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf.
- 18K (75%): 18 karat gold is 75% pure. It's the toughest of the common karats, which makes it the choice for diamond, stone-set, white-gold and designer jewellery.
All four rates come from the same daily 24K benchmark announced by the APGJSA; each lower karat is priced as its share of pure gold. For a full comparison, read our guide to 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold, or see the gold rate in Pakistan today.
