The 24K gold rate in Pakistan fell Rs3,500 to Rs423,000 per tola today, as international gold stayed near a three-month low on expectations of a US interest rate rise in December.
The gold rate in Pakistan fell again today, with 24K gold down Rs3,500, or 0.82%, to Rs423,000 per tola. The rate was Rs426,500 per tola on Thursday. It was the second fall in a row and followed further weakness in the international gold price.
What Moved Gold
International gold fell for a second straight session and traded near a three-month low, according to market reports from FXStreet and Tradingpedia. Futures markets are pricing in roughly an 80% chance that the US Federal Reserve will raise interest rates in December. That outlook helped the US dollar recover from a three-week low, which weighed on gold, since a stronger dollar makes it more expensive for buyers using other currencies and higher rates make gold, which pays no interest, less attractive. Kitco also noted that US weekly jobless claims fell to a three-month low, another sign of a firm economy.
Oil prices held near a one-month high on supply worries linked to violence in the Middle East, keeping inflation concerns alive. The Fed is widely expected to leave rates unchanged at its meeting on 27–28 October, and traders will watch its statement for clues about December. US GDP and PCE inflation data are due the following Thursday.
