The gold rate in Pakistan fell Rs5,500 to Rs418,000 per tola for 24K gold today, its lowest in 30 trading days, after international gold slipped on higher US Treasury yields.

The gold rate in Pakistan fell today, with 24K gold down Rs5,500, or 1.30%, to Rs418,000 per tola, according to the Sarafa association. The rate was Rs423,500 per tola on Friday. The drop follows a weaker finish for international gold at the end of the week.

What Moved Gold

International gold came under pressure on Friday as US Treasury yields rose, with the 10-year yield reaching 5.00%, according to market reports. Higher yields make non-interest-bearing assets such as gold less attractive to hold, and a slightly firmer US dollar added to the pressure. Reports citing Reuters said the metal touched its weakest level since July during the session and was heading for its sharpest weekly decline in more than four months.

Traders also pointed to expectations that the Federal Reserve may raise interest rates again before the end of the year, ahead of its policy meeting on 27–28 October. Weakness in technology shares and higher oil prices added to a cautious mood across markets, and silver and other precious metals also fell. International markets are closed at the weekend, so today's local rate reflects Friday's trading.
