The gold rate in Pakistan fell Rs3,500 to Rs417,500 per tola today, as international gold slipped on rising expectations of a US interest rate hike.
The gold rate in Pakistan fell today, with 24K gold down Rs3,500, or 0.83%, to Rs417,500 per tola. On Thursday the rate was Rs421,000. The drop follows a weaker international gold price and takes the local rate to its lowest level in the past 30 trading days.
What Moved Gold
International gold fell to its lowest level since mid-July on Friday and was heading for a second straight monthly decline, according to Reuters. Rising crude oil prices and persistent inflation worries reinforced expectations that the US Federal Reserve will raise interest rates further. US data showed inflation picked up in September as consumers paid more for petrol and other goods, supporting economists' expectations of a rate increase in December.
Higher interest rates tend to weigh on gold, which pays no interest. Traders were pricing in a strong chance of a December hike, according to the CME's FedWatch tool. The Fed held rates steady at its meeting on Wednesday, but two officials voted for an increase. A slightly softer US dollar this week has done little to support the metal.
