The gold rate in Pakistan fell today, with 24K gold down Rs1,500, or 0.35%, to Rs432,500 per tola. On Friday the rate was Rs434,000. The drop leaves the local price close to its lowest level in more than a month.
What Moved Gold
International markets are closed for the weekend, so the spot price has barely changed since Friday's close. It was a choppy week for gold. According to Kitco, prices came under heavy pressure from hotter-than-expected US inflation data, which pushed up Treasury yields and firmed the dollar. Gold then recovered late in the week as bond yields eased and traders scaled back expectations of another US interest rate rise. FX Leaders reported that US consumer inflation came in at 3.7% year on year. The firm data reinforced views that US rates will stay high for longer.
Tensions in the Middle East, including disruption to shipping near the Strait of Hormuz, gave gold some safe-haven support. Even so, Kitco said gold struggled to push beyond its recent trading range.
